Going the Organic way

The world and its focal point have changed by 360° in recent
times. The globe had come to a deadlock like it had forgotten the track. When
we ponder over we realize a fact that we are the ones who have created a mess
in nature and its ecological habitat. We have seized the homes of many
creatures, fauna, and flora. Utilizing their cocoons for our greedy and
self-centered wants and needs is what we have been doing. But this should have
stopped and humans couldn’t do the needful, thus nature had to harness its ecosystem
on its own. The decision it took was to stagnate. Stop! The complete lifecycle
in its path without a thought to ask or answer.

This time has given us space to think about where have we gone
wrong, what have we done against nature. When we explored our behavior what we
surfaced to was a harsh reality and that was of the amount of waste we create
every day. As responsible citizens of the planet Earth, we must return a
token of love and care back to Mother Nature. But how can we do that?
The answer is simple. By decomposing and creating your own house/kitchen waste
into organic manure. This New Year, we resolve to Go Green. We are
determined to educate our readers through our blogs and articles about how a
common man can take easy steps in curing and caring for nature.

In this blog, we shall enlighten you all about how one can
efficiently prepare Organic Manure at home. Read through further and share
your views.

We all know what compost manure or organic manure is. But what we
are unaware of the process to make it. There are a few types of making manure,
let’s see the types first, and further, we shall learn the process.

Pot Method

In this process, we shall need 3 pots to make the manure. The
process is as follows –

  • First, you need to segregate the kitchen
waste into wet and dry waste. The leftovers of fruits, vegetables, and
other food items will be considered wet waste. Paper, plastic, and packaging
materials will be a dry waste
  • Secondly, put these wastes into two separate
containers in the kitchen. When the wet waste container is full, transfer
the waste to the first compost pot.
  • Add dry leaves of the same quantity as the
wet waste, add buttermilk, curd, or cow dung to start the decomposition
    process
  • Mix the container every day. If you find it
wet add a few dry leaves, if it has turned dry add water and mix it.
  • Leave the pot open for 30 to 50 days for the
process to complete. Later shift this semi-composted material to a
    larger bin or container.
  • Post two months, this will convert into rich
organic manure that can be used to grow organic vegetables and
fruits in your garden or farms.

Eggshells Method

Eggshells
contain 95% calcium carbonate which is similar to a lime. It is a famous soil
amendment used to minimize soil’s acidic nature and maximize its
fertility.

  • It’s a simple process. First, rinse clean
the shells with water and leave them for drying.
  • Later, grind them into a blender or
    mixer.
  • Preserve in a glass container.

Vermicomposting Method

It is a method where worms’ droppings are created after they
consume organic waste. This process completely depends on earthworms.
The worms require air, water, food, and a perfect amount of warmth to sustain
and breed. These worms when added to the composting process it is termed vermicomposting

  • Shred newspaper, cardboard, and mix it with
coconut fibers and dry cow dung cakes.
  • In a large container, soak these materials
in water, squeeze the extra wetness and place them in the composting bin
    at the bottom.
  • Add some earthworms with the soil they have
lived in the bin, add semi-composted waste materials of the kitchen.
  • Mostly feed the worms with vegetarian wastes
    like fruit peels, etc.
  • Do not add any acidic waste, stick to
leaves, fruit peels, coffee, tea powder or tea bags, etc.
  • Over a period of 20 to 30 days, the
vermicompost is ready to be utilized or sold.

This exquisitely rich and wholesome organic manure –

  • Maintains soil fertility.
  • Develops the soil nutritive level by
    maximizing its structure and aeration.
  • Increases its infiltration capacity.
  • Such manure retains the plant’s nutrients
    and moisture.

Now that you have learned the methods of creating organic manure,
we should start utilizing it to grow our veggies and fruits. Why not develop a
small little farm or your terrace or in your tiny garden.
